“Hi, Can I Give You Some Information On Our Company?”
By Paul Wein
This weekend, The Learning Annex held their annual Real Estate Wealth Expo in Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center, which means that once again – I found myself behind a booth at a convention – and while it was a lot of work – I loved every minute of it.
I love going to conventions. I love meeting people that I will probably never meet again, I enjoy walking down aisle after aisle and seeing booth after booth of people peddling their wares – and I love being able to go home with a few goodies of my own to remember the convention by.
Fillmore Real Estate’s booth was number 217, and my job was to represent Fillmore and give out information on our company, flyers describing some of our current property listings – and offer some free stuff of our own – which included pens, rulers and key-chains.
The last two days were very exhausting. For ten hours a day, I stood on my feet and said the same speech to all who stopped at our booth. “Hi, can I give you some information on our company? We are Fillmore Real Estate, Brooklyn’s largest Real Estate company. We have 20 offices, 500 agents and have been in business since 1966. Can I offer you a flyer showing some of our listings?” Imagine saying that to at least a thousand different people eight hours a day for two straight days. I had a few agents that did assist me on the second day of the convention, which was yesterday – but I could not have survived the workload of both days if not for my “tag team partner” Pierre, who is Fillmore’s Director of Technology – and one of my newest and dearest friends. He was there with me all day both Saturday and yesterday, and even joined me and a few other conventioneers for a few well-deserved cold ones after the first long day. But if not for him, I would not have been able to last both days.
While it was a lot of work, I love working conventions. I get to meet people from all over the country and the world, I get to present Fillmore in a positive light to the rest of the real estate industry – and I always make a few friends at these conventions that make the workday seem more fun then it normally would be. I also enjoy when John, Fillmore’s President, comes to me at the end of the day and tells me how happy he is with the way the booth looked and with my efforts to, as he put it, “take the company to the next level.” I love my job at Fillmore and my relationship with John and my colleagues – and look forward to doing just that.
The next convention I will be attending will be a Real Estate convention from December 7-9 in Atlantic City, New Jersey where Fillmore will once again have a booth. And while a part of me dreads the thought of once again having to say the same thing to thousands of different people for another two straight days, I am excited about going to “A.C” – and once again getting away for a few more days.
